How the kite score works

Every forecast is scored 0–100 from four weather factors, then turned into a plain verdict: YES 🪁, EH… or NOPE.

The method

The four factors

• Wind (largest share) — how well the sustained wind fits the 8–25 mph sweet spot. Below ~4 mph or above ~31 mph and it scores zero.
• Gusts — rough gusts are what break kites. Steady wind scores full marks; gusts over ~31 mph tank the score.
• Rain — a wet kite is heavy, sluggish and no fun. Over ~60% rain probability and the score dives.
• Temperature — a small weight for comfort: frozen fingers and 40°C heat both count against a good outing.

From score to verdict

• 75+ — YES 🪁. Excellent conditions, get the kite out.
• 50–74 — EH…. Flyable but check the best window and the forecast.
• Under 50 — NOPE. The kite stays in the cupboard.

A thunderstorm caps the score hard — lightning plus wet kite lines is never worth it.
