Why the delta wins for beginners
The delta's swept wings give it dihedral — the shape that makes it a self-correcting platform. When the wind varies (and it always varies), a delta holds its line where a diamond pitches and dives. Because it flies in lighter wind, you also get more flyable days: the ideal wind window is 8–25 mph, and a delta extends it down to about 5 mph.
When to buy a diamond anyway
For a kid's first kite, a party, or the cheapest kite that still flies, a small diamond is fine — fly it in honest wind and expect to chase it. And nothing beats the classic look. For a gift, a delta is the safer buy.
